Based in rural north Oxfordshire, Andrew McGill has been making and repairing bows for over 40 years. Initially trained by an ex-W.E Hill & Sons bowmaker, he also garnered valuable experience working in the United States.

I commissioned Andrew to make me a bow. I am delighted with it, both in appearance and playing quality. I now use it in preference to my Morizot. I would warmly recommend his work without hesitation.
Nick Howson, BBC Philharmonic, Marchini String Quartet
The bow has a clear sound, fantastic balance, clean articulation, is easily capable of producing the full dynamic range and feels very comfortable in the hand. In all honesty I was thinking of a McGill bow as a second bow but now I have one it has become my first bow in the orchestra at the Royal Opera House.

I've known Andrew McGill for many years now. He has taken his talent and artistic understanding to great heights. His restoration work is second to none and his bows are the rival of the old masters he knows so well. We're lucky to have him near us both as an artist and a friend.

I'm a double bass session player in London, playing lots of notes for firms, tv and video games. Andrew made me a copy of my Sartory bow which is utterly amazing. The balance is perfect and it is very beautiful to look at in every way! In the words of one of my colleagues, "it's the best modern bow I have ever tried."
Mary Scully, freelance double bass session player
Andrew McGill is not only one of the finest double bass bow makers of his generation, but history will show one of the all time greats. I have owned around ten of his bows, all built with great craftsmanship, a sensitive eye for detail using the finest materials. Andrew also makes faithful copies of historic makers. His other forte is restoration of old bows - if it's possible Andrew can restore your bow to mint condition. And if you want a rehair to transform your sound and performance, look no further.
